Are you aching for relief from pain? Interested in lowering anxiety? Think CBD massage oil might be the answer for you. In this article we’ll cover how to make CBD massage oil and the benefits of using it.

I’m sure that by now, you’ve seen all of the miracle stories about CBD oil helping people overcome their ailments, chronic or not. I know I definitely have! So I wanted to see if it was possible to produce my own at home with some essential oils and coconut oil. And it is!

CBD oil has helped so many people overcome their ailments, chronic or not. It’s likely you’ve heard of some of these success stories. And most likely you know someone who has been helped by CBD as well. CBD is like a magic bullet for a wide variety of ailments, and I think we are all curious to see if we could get benefit from it as well.

But where do you even get CBD? And how much does it cost?

Well, you can purchase CBD oil from many different places. I’ve tried three different CBD oils so far, and have liked them all! I chose the one that’s the best fit for my body and also has the most therapeutic value for me. You can read more about that here. CBD is one of many cannabinoids, or chemical compounds, found in the cannabis plant. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is another example of a cannabinoid. Cannabinoids interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which regulates and balances all functions within the body. The endocannabinoid system determines whether you’re in pain (we feel pain when nerve receptors are sending our brain information that we’ve been injured or touched). When the endocannabinoid system is out of balance, it can cause a wide variety of symptoms and illnesses. CBD oil helps bring the body back into balance by interacting with specific receptors present in the endocannabinoid system.

The use of essential oils in an oil blend for CBD massage oil adds to the therapeutic value. Essential oils have a strong aroma, and the aroma can have a significant effect on your body. Each essential oil has different therapeutic value, so you need to know why you’re adding each one. You can read more about the benefits of essential oils here. The coconut oil in the blend is used to help the mixture absorb into your skin. Usually a carrier oil will be needed, and since CBD isn’t soluble in water it needs another substance for transport. Coconut oil works great for this!

How to Make CBD Massage Oil at Home


3 drops each, 1 oz coconut oil, lavender, helichrysum, bergamot and frankincense essential oils (I bought Young Living brand) This recipe uses 100 total drops, so 3% from the total.

  1. Add coconut oil to a heat proof container, leaving room for mixing.
  2. Gently heat the oil until it’s just melted. If you’re not good with patience, you could pop it in the microwave at this point for 10-15 seconds to melt it faster. Be careful not to overheat it! Coconut oil is the best option for this blend because of its high melting temperature and how well it absorbs into your skin!
  3. Add essential oils of your choice. I chose to use three drops each from the Frankincense, Helichrysum, Bergamot and Lavender. You can choose as many or as few as you’d like. I wanted a blend that would help me relieve stress and get a good night’s sleep!
  4. Mix ingredients together with a plastic spoon until the mixture is evenly spread out in the oil.
  5. Pour into a container and use as you’d like!

How to Apply CBD Massage Oil

You can find the best way to apply CBD oil based on your needs. It can be applied topically, taken orally, or inhaled. I use my mixture topically in the mornings when I wake up and in the evenings before bed. I also use it on my legs and feet during the day if I’m experiencing pain.

I use carrier oil for two reasons. The first is that CBD is not soluble in water, so it needs something to help it absorb into the skin. Coconut oil works well as a carrier oil, and has many other beneficial uses for our skin! The second reason that I choose to use a carrier oil is that I want the effects of CBD and the essential oils to be dispersed through my body. If I were to apply it on its own or ingest it, it would be concentrated in one place and wouldn’t work as well.

Apply CBD to your desired area. Massage in the formula until it’s evenly distributed through your skin. Allow it to remain on your skin for 5-10 minutes. Wash it off with soap and water.

CBD Massage Oil Safety Tips

This is a high-quality product, but there are always a few safety tips to keep in mind. Be sure to use a carrier oil that’s safe for your skin type! There are some oils that are better suited for some people than another, so I’d encourage you to do some research before you buy.

Also, be sure to let your oil completely dry before getting dressed. Remember that coconut oil absorbs into the skin, so if you use it on your feet and put socks or shoes on right away, you could end up with some dampness.
